Formula
1RM = weight × (1 + reps / 30)
This is the Epley formula. The app compares each set with the same set last time by it, which puts 40×10 and 42.5×8 on one scale.
For example, 100 kg × 5 estimates 116.7 kg.
Even a single rep estimates a little above the weight lifted: 100 kg for one rep is 103.3 kg. That is how the formula works, and the app counts the same way: what matters is one scale for every set, not precision to the kilogram.
The more reps, the less a set says about your max. So the calculator and the app both count a set of more than 12 reps as a set of 12.
In the app
The app works this out by itself
- The chip on a set compares it with last time by estimated 1RM: green is better, red is worse, grey is about the same.
- A new estimated 1RM is a PR: it is marked right away, in the workout summary.
- Strength curve - an exercise's estimated 1RM from every workout on one chart.GesWay Plus
- The set calculator tells you what to take on the next set to keep the effort the same.GesWay Plus
